CHAPTER 6

Business today at the office was going to be busy as usual. Agent Haywood would be lucky if he made it home before midnight tonight. It was currently a few minutes after eight and he just made it in. He made himself comfortable at his desk and cut on his computer. Now it was time for him to run a background check on Benjamin Smith and Steven Boyd to see where they fit in this investigation. Agent Haywood was sure once he found out who they were and what they were about, the pieces in this puzzle would fall together instantly.

The first name he looked up was Benjamin Smith.

Born May 13, 1984. Currently lives on Atlans Street in the neighborhood of East Ocean View, with one, Steven Boyd. Originally from Staten Island in New-York. Lived with Grandmother until the age of 12, which was when she got ill and passed. Got adopted by Uncle Dontae Barr, who at the time just got released from Clinton Annex Max.

Agent Haywood stopped for a minute to think where he knew that name from. Then it hit him. Double O.G. Bloody-Chop! A smile spread across his face. Now everything was starting to make a little more sense. Was this one of the two men Barr used to assassinate Travis Boyd II? Agent Haywood continued to read.

Smith was recruited by the Mad Dog Bloods and was known by other members as Bloodshed. By thirteen years old he developed a notorious reputation on the streets. It’s believed he was involved in four homicides, but due to insufficient evidence, no charges were ever brought up. Moved with uncle to Norfolk, Virginia in 1997. Received probation for an aggravated assault. Violated probation for felony gun possession and shooting in an occupied dwelling. Received three years mandatory time for firearm. One year for shooting in occupied dwelling and two years’ probation violation. Did six years in Tidewater Detention Home and was released in 2003. Is currently on unsupervised probation.

Agent Haywood printed the information he got about Benjamin Smith then proceeded to look up Steven Boyd.

Born July 1, 1985 in Portsmouth, Virginia. Mother: Linda Epps; known I.V. drug user. Father; Unknown. Mother brutally murdered by unknown assailant after leaving Maryview Hospital and finding out she was H.I.V. Positive. Murder: Unsolved. Boyd was placed in various foster homes. Believed to have fathered one, Maisha Boyd by foster sister, Timesha Smalls. Received juvenile life for aggravated malicious wounding on foster parent in 1998. Reason for crime: Because she wore blue hanker chief. Released on birthday July 1, 2003 to resident Dontae Barr.

Interesting Agent Haywood thought. He continued to read.

Currently resides on Atlans Street in East Ocean View neighborhood in Norfolk, Virginia.

Agent Haywood printed the information he got on Steven Boyd and thought about his release date for a second. July 1, 2003. Where do I remember that date from?

Agent Haywood got up from his desk and walked to the doorway of his office.

“Excuse me,” Agent Haywood yelled to his colleagues sitting in various compartments throughout the building floor.
